Tetris Wouldn't Triumph at This Gaming Ceremony — A New Category May Address This Issue

Whenever a major honors show approaches, one notices a clamor to include of new categories to acknowledge unsung work and delight the passions of enthusiasts with niche passions.

A fellow writer previously argued advocating for terror-themed awards. It would be amazing. Equally deserving are tabletop games, which is someone's personal cause. But they will have to forgive me when I prioritize just as with other dedicated enthusiasts, there's a strong justification for why my demand remains most pressing above others. Here's the proposal: There should be a classification for brain-teasing titles.

Categorizing Game Types

Classifying creative works isn't exact; it’s very subjective, and typically generate discussions and end in fuzzy definitions. It's understandable that movie academies steer clear of genre categories. But it is an essential concession in the world of video games, that demonstrate such variety they hardly constitute one unified medium.

To recognize the complete range of gaming accomplishments to receive acknowledgment, and for games of all stripes to have a chance for representation, classification by type becomes crucial.

Present Award Structure

Leading game ceremonies offer these genre categories for Action-oriented games, Action/Adventure, RPG experiences, Combat games, Simulation and strategy titles, plus athletic and racing experiences. Together, these six categories successfully include numerous genres, and you can find room for most games within them.

Different situation exists for puzzle games. There’s simply nowhere to put them. Consider three of this year’s best games, each quite distinct: structural challenges in a particular game, intense tile-matching in a different title, engaging interpersonal challenges in another game. Which classification works within current classifications? Unfortunately, nowhere.

Recognition Challenges

Numerous examples exist excellent brain-teasers released every year without proper recognition in entertainment awards, if they accidentally match for categories like Handheld titles, Virtual reality experiences, or the intensely contested Indie races.

  • An iconic brain-teaser wasn’t nominated completely in 2014
  • Another imaginative release missed out during that ceremony
  • Popular arranging title got ignored in 2021
  • Only a few puzzle games managed to sneak into niche award types

Value of Brain-Teasers

These are often small games, yet the craft in brain-teasers carries substantial weight. Famous handheld logic titles stand as most popular titles worldwide continuing this trend for over a decade.

The famous puzzle experience competes with popular creative games competing to become most purchased experience; it additionally competes for best game of all time. Logic titles represent cornerstones for gaming as medium, while interacting with diverse game types.

Recommendation and Reasoning

Logic titles wouldn't face such difficulty. One could readily select multiple candidates interesting, varied, worthy titles annually without trouble — actually, with challenge, given the need to exclude many worthy titles.

Restating the point, these represent titles lacking appropriate categories during prominent ceremonies. Logic title developers operate at the challenging frontier of video game design, creating some of the purest expressions of gaming itself. Comparable to film action specialists, they deserve recognition. Let’s not keep them waiting decades.
